The aim of the Foundation (set up in 1994) is to contribute to acquainting the Hungarian public with Oriental cultures and arts in Hungary. The Foundation carries out its activities in cooperation with the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts. Membership of the Foundation is open to all.
Activity of the Foundation in 2004
This year the Foundation organised a daytime camp of Oriental arts and handicrafts with the support of the local government of Terézváros, Budapest. The camp took place between 28 June and 4 July in close cooperation with the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts, in the garden of the György Ráth Museum. The majority of the 27 children participating in the camp were 10-14 years of age.
When organising the camp, we aimed to give the children an opportunity to familiarize themselves with Oriental cultures as well as with the special world of our museum. Each day we attempted to introduce an Asian country via its characteristic objects, images, music and games. Each day we started with a 'warm-up'; then we had a short talk about the country of that day. Mornings were spent on handicraft activities, followed by lunch in a nearby restaurant. We always sought to incorporate games into the afternoon programmes so that the children could come to know each other better. During the camp, our intention was not to confer dry facts but rather to bring the culture, way of life and philosophy of the given country nearer to the participants.
